Thursday, May 6, 2010

A master’s student in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology has captured a $60,000 scholarship from the Dairy Farmers of Ontario. Yfke Pasman will use this funding to continue her work on the prevention of economically important diseases in dairy cattle. Her research examines state-of-the-art antibody engineering technology. She is supervised by Prof. Azad Kaushik.

In addition, Pasman has been invited to present her research on the organization of lambda light chain locus of cattle at a meeting of the American Association of Immunologists May 7 to 11 in Baltimore. She will also discuss the use of engineered antibodies in the prevention of bovine herpes virus-1 infection.
