The University of Guelph’s pivotal role in the global growth of DNA barcoding is featured in this week’s edition of the local Rogers TV cable television show Talk Local with host Martin Bosch.

Profs. Steven Newmaster, herbarium director at the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario, and Robert Hanner, associate director of the Canadian Barcode of Life Network, are guests on the show. They discuss the origins of DNA barcoding and how it is being used around the world to conserve biodiversity and protect endangered species, detect food fraud, and control agricultural pests and invasive species.

Talk Local’s cameras also visited the University’s new Centre for Biodiversity Genomics. The one-hour show airs March 30 at 1 p.m., March 31 at 6 p.m., and April 1 at 1 p.m. on Rogers TV Cable 20.
