Environmental biology professor Madhur Anand is set to receive the 2012 Female Professional of the Year Award from the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC). She’ll be honoured June 9 during the group’s annual awards and gala night in Toronto.

The ICCC is one of the largest membership-based national business organizations in Canada with more than 1,500 members representing all facets of the Canadian economy. Its annual gala is the premier social and business event for Indo-Canadians, hosting more than 1,000 business leaders and guests.

Anand, the holder of the Canada Research Chair in Global Ecological Change, studies the effects of climate change on ecosystems. At U of G, she has chaired the outreach committee of the School of Environmental Sciences and has organized community events such as Café Scientifique, the Kenneth Hammond lectures and the Environment Bound book series, which celebrates books related to the environment. She also belongs to the Guelph Arts Council and is a published poet.
