U of G student Chris Hemmerich was the second-best Canadian golfer and a top-20 finisher at the Federation of International Sports Universities (FISU) World University Golf Championship this month in Liberec, Czech Republic.

Held July 2 to 6, the event brought together the best student-athlete golfers from around the world. The FISU Games are the second-largest multi-sport games in the world after the Olympic Games.

Hemmerich, a fourth-year management economics student, shot a four-day total of 281 (73, 69, 67, 72) strokes to finish 19th. Overall, the Canadian team placed ninth. Spain took first place.

Earlier this season, Hemmerich placed ninth in individual play at the World University Championships and was 15th at the Canadian University/College Championships.

He won the silver medal at the Ontario University Athletics championships last fall.
