Two professors in the University of Guelph’s School of English and Theatre Studies (SETS) were among recipients of the Canadian Association for Theatre Research (CATR) awards announced this past spring.
SETS director Prof. Alan Filewod received the Ann Saddlemyer Award for an outstanding book published in the previous year in French or English.
During two decades at U of G, Filewod has explored the history of political intervention theatre in Canada and wider theatrical practices. He won the CATR award for his book, Committing Theatre: Theatre Radicalism and Political Intervention in Canada.
Theatre studies professor Ric Knowles received the Patrick O’Neill Award for best edited collection for Asian Canadian Theatre. The book was co-edited by former SETS student Nina Lee Aquino, who received a lifetime honorary CATR membership for her contributions to Canadian theatre. Their book discusses the development and contributions of Asian Canadian theatre during the twenty-first century.
The CATR is a non-profit organization founded in 1976 to support research in theatre and performance studies in Canada, particularly in Canadian works.
