U of G’s chapter of Right to Play received a cheque for more than $1,000 last week from Guelph’s Tri-City Martial Arts club. The money was raised during a November regional karate tournament to benefit the charity, which helps children in developing countries.

Right to Play is an international humanitarian organization using sport for development, health and peace.

“It was a great experience to see the dedication and development process that takes place in the sport of karate,” says Aryn Clarke, co-president of U of G’s Right to Play chapter.

“With the donation from the tournament, more than 200 kids can now access Right to Play programs.”

Sensei Tom Cako said the event was intended to help children learn that “it is about more than just us…seeing a bigger picture and supporting a greater cause — in this case, the Right to Play charity.”
