Steve Barnhart, MLA ’95 and an adjunct professor in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, received a 2013 regional merit award from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects.

The award relates to his work as manager of landscape architectural services for the City of Hamilton; he is consultant on the multi-year project that created the East Hamilton Recreational Trail Hub and Waterfront Link. If you’ve driven by Hamilton on the QEW, you may have noticed a red fan bridge over the highway that connects the city’s Red Hill Creek natural area to the lakeshore, allowing pedestrians and bikers to use both trails. The project also restored a significant wetland and remediated two closed landfills.

Barnhart worked on the Hamilton project with DuToit Allsopp Hillie architects, St. Williams Nursery and Ecology Centre, and Dougan & Associates.
