Prof. Judith Thompson, English and Theatre Studies, is directing a play currently running at Buddies in Bad Times theatre in Toronto.

Freda and Jem’s Best of the Week was written by Lois Fine and focuses on two women who got married and built a family together. When they decide to split up, their family discovers that their love for each other doesn’t have to end at divorce, but it will have to change. Canadian singer Lorraine Segato performs her music live in the play.

Thompson developed and dramaturged the play. She is regarded as one of Canada’s leading playwrights and directors, and has written 19 plays, including the award-winning White Biting Dog, I am Yours, Crackwalker and Lion in the Streets. She is an Officer of the Order of Canada and a winner of the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Prize for Palace of the End. She recently returned to acting after a 35-year hiatus, performing in a one-woman play she wrote, Watching Glory Die.

Freda and Jem’s Best of the Week runs until Oct. 5 with performances from Tuesday to Sunday each week.
