United Way student co-chairs Remy Marlatt, marketing management, and Meghan Doherty, arts and science, have organized seven “lecture auctions” to support this year’s United Way campaign. Participating faculty allowed their students to choose the lecture topic in exchange for donations to the United Way:

Evie Adomait, economics: “All About Me.”

Ryan Clemmer, engineering: “Thursday at Trappers and Thermodynamics.”

Kim Francis, music: “Led Zeppelin.”

Edward Koning, political science: “The Conservative Party of Canada and Civil Rights.”

Profs. Francis and Koning invite other members of the campus community to join the class for their Nov. 26 lectures. Hear Francis at 2:30 p.m. in MacKinnon Room 107; Koning at 4:30 p.m. in MacNaughton Room 113.

In addition, Prof. Brad Hanna, biomedical sciences, will devote part of his last lecture this semester to the movie career of his 1960 DeSoto. The classic car will star as Joe DiMaggio’s ride in an upcoming movie about the life of Marilyn Monroe.

Marlatt and Doherty hope to raise $1,000 through the lecture auctions. Earlier events – Orientation Week activities, a Peer Helper Fun Fair and donations from student meal plans and bookstore purchases – have also pushed the student United Way campaign towards its $15,000 goal.

Overall, the University campaign goal for 2014 is $600,000; the current total is $438,207.
