A group of 15 U of G students will spend this month volunteering in Dharamsala, India, as part of a service learning project with Prof. Andrea Paras, Department of Political Science, and Himalayan Explorers, an organization that offers adventure travel and service learning opportunities for young people.

The students will learn about the positive and negative effects of volunteering abroad, including how to maximize the benefits for organizations, volunteers and those they help. They will also write a paper about their experiences working for NGOs in Dharamsala, such as human rights organisations and animal rescue groups. Guest speakers will discuss issues affecting Indian society.
